I have red ants right in the middle of my garden. They bite every time I try to get in there. How can I get rid of them?
I'm sure there is some sort of carnivorous insect that would prey on these ants. I'm not sure what kind they would be or if they are even readily available. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I am sure someone here is familiar with it.
I usually pour boiling water on red ant piles, this is safe and effective. The problem is I can't do that in the middle of my plants. I was hoping someone else might have a trick up their sleeve. thanks.
I use borax and honey. Cover it in pet proof containers and let em drink. Pop cans will work buried in the ground a bit to keep other things out. M,Hahahahahah! < evil laugh!> Bob
If you have another Red Ant pile in the vicinity take a shovel and dig a spade full from each pile, and drop it on the opposite pile. Ants are very territorial, and will fight each other to the death, eliminating each other. - Millet (1,404-)
To add to what Millet just suggested , remember, that you must still go out into the garden and find the last Ant standing and force feed him some borax. <vbg> p.s. Sorry Millet, sometimes I just can't help myself. ;-) Bob
wow I didn't know that millet, thanks everybody these ideas seem great, and there is always a red ant pile around in S. Fla. :)
my dad lives there, too, and has the fire ants in his yard as well. they are NASTY! always wear shoes and try to avoid the area where the nest is - it doesn't take much to annoy them and they attack at the slightest provocation!! there is a specific product you can get and apply to the nest. although i don't know what the name is, i know my dad got it a lowe's or home depot. just be sure to get the product for 'fire ant's'.
laticunda, if there IS any predator of fire ants (and i don't think there is, actually) they aren't native to the us so there's no help in that regard. fire ants aren't native either.
