Hi everyone, I have questions on this same tree. I'd like to keep it and get it going as it was a gift. I did read the other thread that had similar questions and some answers. But they didnt' answer my own questions -The directions with this tree says to cut back the branches to 6 inches from the stem after flowering. Do I wait for yellow flowers or are the silver things like in this picture the flowers? -does "grafted" mean the glue like substance at the top so the tree won't grow any taller? -my branches have tons of green shoots (tree is still about 18 inches in pot). do i remove these? -will this tree never grow bigger? I read the posting about staking a shoot to help the tree get taller. thanks! any help appreciated!
My experience with willows is that if you shove a cut stem into the soil & keep it moist at this time of year it will grow. Trim it back about 1/3 before you plant it out. Sorry not to be more specific, but - don't worry. Commercial landscape companies just get cut native willow branches & stick them in the ground in moist places when doing park & remediation plantings. They are quite forgiving.
