My question was what should it look like? Right now it is a mess of branches with many non leafed branches underneath. Do I trim those or keep them. Again, it will be easier when I attach a photo later.
Re: Acer Palmatum 'Red Dragon' Don't prune them until it's colder out and the tree's gone dormant... a month or so maybe. There are hundreds of maple varieties and your picture will go a lot farther to I.D.'ing it than our vague descriptions of what it should look like, or at least give something to compare against, IYKWIM.
