Question:How soon after potatoes are dug can they be planted?

Usually, potatoes by convention are in storage for months before planting, and there is no information about say immediately shipping newly dug potatoes to a warmer area and planting. In other words-do they require a dormant period for good growth?

Anybody have an experienced or biological answer?

I have no idea. Why don't you plant one now and see if it grows. It would be an interesting experiment. I don't know why it wouldn't grow.

The question has some practical reality. For example, some people in the US live in areas where potatoes can now be planted. There are no seed potatoes readily available. The seed potatoes are usually supplied in the Spring from most suppliers, usually from Northern climates to reduce disease transfer. Cold weather has distinct advantages.
