I received a plant many years ago, referred to as "pope's robe" or "purple passion" - the leaves are velvety, basic green but with a plush purple coating - flowers are tiny with long orange stamens, turn very fluffy if left on the plant - rather susceptible to aphids - can anyone help me to identify it please???

Might be Gynura aurantiaca 'Purple Passion' (syn. G. sarmentosa), Velvet Plant.

Insecticidal soap works well with most indoor plants. A quick check on the web seems to indicate it's safe for this plant. Perhaps someone reading this can confirm.
