Has anyone seen this? We just got it in the ground for a week and had some heavy rains in the past week. I just noticed it yesterday. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards

    Hi there!

On first inspection it looks a bit like old sunburn you see on some cacti that were planted without first being adjusted to the amount of sun they would be getting. IF this is true, then it's not a big deal, it's just cacti being cacti. Are you certain this has developed over the last few days?

However, the cracking at the connection point of that arm does indicate that this plant used to be overwatered. Since it has a history of being overwatered it could be surmised that it may be rotting internally. Only time can tell if this is the case. What do you think?

Thank you that was very helpful. The black is spreading and now it’s got a white substance on it now that I can scrape off with a fingernail.

    Hi there,

How do the areas feel? Are the getting soft and mushy? Or do they still feel turgid? If they are getting soft and mushy, it is a definite sign of rot.
