Hi All: My 7 yr old grandson and I have planted some pumpkin seeds. WOW, we've got some vines that look like they are going to take over my backyard. Can I redirect these vines? Can I cut them off?? The area that we selected to grow these pumpkins is not very large. We put in five plants but I'd be okay with taking about three out and concentrating on growing him and his little friends a nice size pumpkin for Halloween this year.

Sure, you can just cut away the vines that you don't want. You should get a few pumpkins on the vines you leave. If you want a big pumpkin, just leave one fruit and pinch the others off the plant.

Thank you so much for your advice. I'll get at that tomorrow. The vines have actually gone crazy and there are a few pumpkins started. They look healthy and my grandson is so pleased with the progress. Actually, he has promised to give them to some of his buddies and the kids come by almost every day just to check them out. (seven years old). They are facinated.
