Prunning Sambuccus nigra 'Black Beauty"

    How do I cut back Sambuccus nigra 'Black Beauty" to ensure that it flowers. Last year I cut it back drastically (the shrub was enormous!) and did not get any flowers. Does it flower on new wood or previous year's? It's sited in a sunny location.
