Wondering if anyone has experience with topping Sequoia Pendula. Seen it done with a new leader tied into position the reason stated to generate a stronger truck as they're grafted. Also probably forces out more crazy forms as opposed to a telephone pole. Is this accepted practice or should they be left alone?

In general, it's best NOT to prune anything except to remove crossing/rubbing branches, double leaders, etc.

I would leave the plant alone since pruning could cause the plant to turn into something that is really unpleasing to the eye.

my reasons for pruning usually start with DDD (dead, diseased, damaged), then crossing / rubbing (aka structure), cosmetics are not top of the list for sure. If you are asking about a very young plant then retying a tip or leader may be an option, on an older plant I dont think I would do it.
