Mine is three years old and is developing well with its natural sprawly shape. (Wonderful non-coniferous evergreen for my zone 3a by the way). My question is: do I need to prune this at all if I'm happy with the shape and if so what time of year? Thanks in advance. Les
No, if you are happy with the shape, you don't need to prune it at all. Despite that we have "domesticated" various trees and shrubs, and frequently prune them for various reasons, the plant itself doesn't "need" to be pruned. If you were going to prune it, the dormant period (winter), is the time.
