Is it possible to propagate zelkova serrata with cuttings? If so, how big should the cuttings be, and what time of year is best?

I've found a wee bit of information on this but not much.
Green wood cuttings in summer, young plants apparently take better.
Grafting can be done in winter and you can remove suckers from the plant at the same time.

with the cuttings, tip cuttings work best (a length of about 6cm) and root quickly but need to be potted fast as they will wilt quickly too (you can slow this down by putting them in an opaque plastic bag or into water). You'll need to keep the humidity up so maybe place a clear plastic bag over them if you havnt got a covered propagator. you can use rooting hormone if you and bottom heat will help to speed up rooting. Oh and you might want to water them in to their pots with a weak fugicidal soultion.

    Good luck

    Thanks for instructions!

It seems to be quite a hard plant to reproduce by cuttings. Maybe I should try another plant first, to train my skills. My zelkova isn't very big yet, so I don't want to take cuttings from it for no use.
