My 5 year old frisia has hollow spots under the bark at several places. When i cut away the bark, ther is a deep scarring. 1" wide and about 4" high. I have heard that it is from some sort of bark grub that lives at the top of the scar. I don't want to lose this tree as it is beautiful. Can anyone identify it? What is the life cycle? How can it be controlled?

Can you get a tree doctor (arborist) to look at it?
