Hi, I am trying to decide which hedge/bush would be most appropriate to plant in front of our 4ft fence in front of our house. The city by-laws prevent us from building a taller fence, so we are now wanting plantings to give us more privacy. We are hoping to block the view of passers-by, so we need something that will be just over 6 ft tall. The distance between the fence and the sidewalk is 6ft, so the planting could be quite deep if need be. Our house is green, so we don't want a red-colored bush, because it looks too Christmasy We love vibrant pinks or light/bright greens. We find cedars to be too wintery. We are considering English laurel or Russian laurel. We're also considering planting Camelias to create some privacy and to add some vibrant summer color. We live in Vancouver - zone 8. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!
Not sure what zone 8 is but Camellia make excellent hedges particularly the sasanqua camellias (sp) Here is some information on them. http://www.burkesbackyard.com.au/20...lowering_plants_and_shrubs/sasanqua_camellias http://www.redlandsnursery.com.au/infonotes/camelliasasanqua.htm Liz
