My very young grand daughter gave me a clay pot which she made for a small plant.
Then she said I should not get it wet because it would melt. Is there any thing I can do to this pot so I can water a plant I put in it,

Use another water proof pot as a liner inside the decorative pot.

Whenever I buy clay pots I put them in a cold oven and gently heat them to about 100 degrees. I then take a large candle and rub the inside and bottom (both sides of the bottom to protect what it will sit on) of the pot with it.

The heated pot (DO NOT OVERHEAT!) melts the wax, which is quickly absorbed by the porous pot. I return the pot to the oven to rewarm, and then rub it with the candle again. I keep doing this until the clay no longer absorbs any more wax, and I leave about an 1/8th inch puddle of wax in the bottom, where water will accumulate. After the pots have cooled, they are good to use without a liner, and even survive the winter if both sides have been sealed.
