I have a potted bearss lime tree. I bring it into my sunroom for the winter. I live in zone 6 in Pennsylvania. Have not placed it outside yet but now it has developed a sticky oozing substance on the leaves which drops on the floor. otherwise it has nice leaves and baby fruit. What could be causing this sticky mess. Help.

The sticky substance is likely to be honeydew excreted by a pest. Look for scale or aphids.

I'm not familiar with citrus scab. Do the leaves on your tree look like the ones pictured in the (PDF) document?

As your tree is located in Allentown, PA., and further because your tree is an indoor grown tree, your tree certainly does not have scab. If you think it is something called "lime scab" evidently, you must have been searching the Internet trying to find out what the possible problem might be. There are three different type of citrus scab diseases,(none are called lime scab) and the production of honey dew is not one of their symptoms. I agree totally with Junglekeeper, that it is an infestation of an insect that is causing the sticky substance, which is known as honey dew. The problem insects are probably spider mites, scale, mealy bug or aphids. - Millet (1,349-)

Thank you. I was probably mistaken. I think I have lime scale. Little round brown flecks on the underside. What can I use to get rid of it. Thanks M

As suspected, (little round brown flecks) your tree has an infestation of Citrus Soft Brown Scale. From time to time, scale is an on going problem occurring to citrus trees. You will always need to keep a sharp eye on your tree. Type the word "scale" into the search function of this web site and you will receive a lot of information on the control of scale. Good luck. - Millet (1,348-)
