That makes me want breakfast! On the internet, never suspect someone doesn't like you until they begin to call you names. :)

I'll post a picture of my brunch plate and some roses later...

Very cool, that your partner is Chinese - I love Chinese people and think they're just terrific. My family doctor, who's more like a father and who's known me since the age of four, is also Chinese. So full of wisdom and knowledge. We sometimes sit and chat over Chinese tea - I could listen to him for hours.

Anyway, I roared when I read ShearMe's comments about the name calling! So funny. No kidding.

WillandLynn, did you think I didn't like you before, when I said I only wanted pictures of people and not all this chatter?!!! Thinking back, the whole thing is quite ridiculous. I love the way the thread is now - much more friendly and easy going. Sorry if I came off as some kind of 'thread nazi'!!!

    : O

I do like you WillandLynn - very much. I enjoy your pictures as well - so post away, and don't be shy. Not to worry - The Hollyberry Lady thinks you're great.

Vicarious - I forgot to tell you...

Not sure which thread it was that you asked about keeping your Nelumbo outside all winter. Anyway, Some information that Tugo found, indicated that the only thing that will kill nelumbo is being frozen solid!

No worries of that happening in your neck of the woods, so I say go for it. My bets are on that it will return next Spring for you, after it's dormancy period.

    Good luck.

This particular Koala had suffered a lot in the fires in OZ lucky he was rescued so sad these slow darlings being engulfed by fire and smoke. I also hope they find a medicine for them not to die of VD anymore . Most have a VD that still kills more and more. YEA they are cut but when you hold them they like fertilize on you somtimes and its yackky :-) and smells very strong. I think now there is a ban on taking pics with Koalas which is not bad.

Ive been to places that still let you hold them, and that was not too long ago, not heard about a ban though? kids will want to hold them when they see them so wildlife centers will make money off that.

That being said i held one in brisbane about 8 yrs ago at a koala sanctuary, quite heavy little things so i'm guilty of that too.

That'z zzooo funny :-) Do they still have that nice restaurant standing alone by the beach in Melbourne and all the love Polish cake shops ? I remember walking there at night and seeing all these very "flying customers eating them selves silly. I was there several weeks several times to design part of the new Crown Casino Uniforms. I also developped a hemp line with a manufacturer in Melbourne who was very creative in making knitted hemp products. I developped hemp fabrics for many years before I met dear Henry there. Melbourne brings back good memories and now it has become a very hip and creative city. I recall leaving Hong Kong with the weather forcast all HOT and 30+ I brought all my linnen and hemp. When I landed it was 13C and rain and I had to put the reverse heater on in the hotel and go buy clothes it was a wake up call to Melbourne weather a bit similar to Vancouver. Bye MATE :-)

You are too funny, CH33ZEBURG3R. What a comical pic. Some humor is what this forum needs, in a big way. Thanks for the funny shot.

Vicarious, I still don't know if skimming the mesquito larvae off the pond has kept it away for you? I skim mine everyday and it stays perfectly clear.

Don't know enough about Nelumbo to tell you why your leaves are yellowing - apart from not enough sun, which you said wasn't a problem. Don't worry though, because a bunch of my leaves yellowed and died, yet new leaves are now sprouting.

In my case, it was definitely lack of light that made my plant go downhill. You are new to growing lotus, so keep trying and don't be discouraged. Our weather has been crappy lately but the last few days have been warm and sunny - noticed my nelumbo beginning to take off again.

I will take pics later - nothing much to show yet.

I guess it depends where you were theres plenty of resaurants by the beach and in a place called St. Kilda you will find a street full of cake shops, its no good going there if your hungry though.

We have had really hot weather here last summer, thats why we had the bad bush fires and now in winter its still very dry, really not much rain at all, which is fine by me as i come from england, UK so summers there are not too good at all.

Melbourne's weather so far has been much better than i thought it would be, so i'm in a happy place right now ;o)

I skim my pond twice and sometimes three times a day! It is crystal clear though, so it's well worth it. Don't let your pond be a breeding bowl for mesquitos - even if they don't bother you. Rest assured they'll be bothering someone, and we sure don't need anymore of the buggers around.

Didn't know exactly when you took that shot Vicarious, so just wanted to know. It was like pulling teeth to get an answer out of ya in email, so just thought I'd bring it up here.

So glad the pony tails are growing for you. You will really like them and they are perennial.

    : )

P.S. I am wondering if clematis seeds will be any good because the vines appear to be hybrid. You know what they say about seeds collected from hybrids - that they will not be true to the mother plant.

You mean about the hybrid seeds, Vicarious?

Yup, it's true. Hybrid seeds will not produce plants identical to the mother plant.

    Hi Vic,
As far as what I read from web, after the first 3 or 4 young leaves, Nelumbo may go a short dormancy to make the tuber more stronger and then starts coming the new leaves. But in winter it will definetely have a winter dormancy, without leaves, to be ready for spring.
Regarding winter, yes as HbL mentioned, some sources say as long as the tuber does not freeze, the plant will survive but some other sources claim that it has to be kept over 10C.
I will have my first winter experience this year and with too many young plants like yours. I am thinking to heat the water just a little or cover them up with some plastic folio.
Since you are in much colder area, I believe you should not be lazy and do some help to the plant, just getting the water out from the container and making easy it to carry to a sheltered place.

Vic, does that mean that you had some kind of back ground in Austria (the one without kangaroos:)) ? Have to say that, my dream country with very very nice people. I had my best part of my life in Austria and lost 11 years:)) Yes it is a contradiction but it is a reality in Austria.
