These pics were taken today in the Faser Valley. This was gowing in the understory of a moist deciduous woodland on a well-rotted branch. Overall size about 4" (ok,ok, 10cm) across. It was firm & leathery to the touch. Shiny upper surface - mind it was after the showers, so most understory vegetation was a bit shiny.

Very handsome. Growing with some equally nice Frog's Pelt (as I call it) which seemed to be fruiting. It was satisfying to meet them both on my Sunday walk.

Any idea what it might be?

    TIA gb

I was going to guess P. badius (re the black stem), but the key http://www.svims.ca/council/Polypo.htm (scroll down to about 48) backs up Geastrum's P. elegans.
