I have just seen a poke root. Is this a plant I could plant in a large wildflower garden in the comox (van isle) area? Thanks for your replies.
They do well enough here - perhaps too well. Some places list them as a potentially invasive species locally: https://iscmv.ca/docs/emerging_species.pdf Unlike some of the others in that document, I've yet to encounter it "in the wild".
When there are already so many native wildflowers here on Vancouver Island, why give a leg up to a relative newcomer that is potentially invasive?
Has been popping up in western Washington cultivated settings for awhile now - I had one appear at my previous property north of Seattle during my last years there. Quick growing and large, it presents its poisonous-to-humans berries at toddler level. As though trying to be malevolent.
