does anyone know if snail vine is poisonous? I have a large one in my yard, and my tortoise keeps trying to eat it. I'm afraid to let him eat it. I don't want him to get sick. Can't find any info on the net.

Likely he is trying to eat it because it's desirable. Multiple species in the genus are edible plants with multiple uses. At least one even has edible tuberous roots. But you can't know for sure if the part of the plant the tortoise is going for is safe for him specifically, plus if he keeps at it he may spoil the plant. So, you will probably have to separate plant and beast anyway.
