I would go with Cleistesiopsis divaricata based on the second photo with the fingers for comparison. The Flora of North America has a key to when these were still in Cleistes, with species distinguished by floral dimensions: Cleistes in Flora of North America @ efloras.org There is a third species, Cleistesiopsis oricamporum, Cleistesiopsis oricamporum (Coastal Plain Pogonia): Go Orchids , first described in the literature in 1997, but it is a coastal plains species.
Thank-you for the info. I was puzzled because seemed that there were 2 varieties of C. divaricata? One was just C. divaricata divaricata and the other C. d. bifaria? However, some sources differentiate C. divaricata vs. C. bifaria....maybe one is newer accepted classification? I was guessing C. d. bifaria due to location and also because sepals remained green....were not maroon.
The authors in the FNA treatment make mention of that: I'm trying to guess size based on a photograph, so if it is overall smaller, then perhaps it is C. bifaria.
