I have bought several pots of plumeria in the last several years. It does not matter whether I planted in soil or kept in pot, they do not last very long. How much water do they need? How much sun do they need? or other problems? thanks

They are native to tropical areas with rich volcanic soil---they enjoy full sun and lots of water, but they must have excellent drainage. Some have dormant periods...is it possible that this is what yours is experiencing?

We have some we've had in pots for years. They need soil and drainage (per the previous post) but the big thing is: in the winter they can be cold OR wet but not both. Easiest thing to do is move the pots under cover when it starts to cool off--don't move them out too soon in the spring. I notice you are in LA--is it possible the pots are getting too hot and cooking the roots? Wrapping the pots in aluminum foil (shiny side out) or otherwise shielding the pot may help.
