Hello. We have a plum tree that we love and want to get another but don't know what it is. It's dark purple outside and very dark reddish purple inside too.

You'll likely need to post photographs of the fruit, tree and leaves.

May pehaps be an orchard plum reference collection at a California State University/USDA Cooperative Extension experiment station within driving distance. They still had a large one at the Chico station when I was there some years ago, anyway.

Is this Plum ripe now in Corte Madera? If so, a purple-red
skin with red flesh speaks Satsuma to me, which is an
early to midseason ripening Plum. The Mariposa, also
known as the Improved Satsuma, which also has a
purple-red colored skin with red flesh, ripens a little later
    after the Satsuma.

I am just not used to a Satsuma ripening this early in
Corte Madera but I guess it is possible.

Thanks so much for this information. The tree is in Corte Madera and is not ripe right now, but it does ripen relatively early, so maybe it's the Satsuma. This has been very helpful. Now we can do research on this variety. I really appreciate it.
