My plumb tree starts dropping its fruit around this time I have notice dark spots on the fruit and I am wondering if this is a possible cause. Also what causes the dark spots. the tree appears to be completely healthy it could probably use a prunning but I am unsure of when I should do this. I have started to water under the canopy for 1 day a week for an hour should I do more?
I have read about thinning the fruit but am not sure what this means ie. if fruit is touching should I pull one off to save the other?
I use fruit spikes in the fall and spring and am regularly spraying with Bonide complete fruit tree spay. I should say that I have only started this 2years ago when I found out this was a plum tree(not sure what species). Last year I did get one fruit to ripen (a dark purple) and it was the best plum I have ever eaten.
When can I expect the fruit to ripen?
I live in the United States Long Island NY.
I am a complete novice at this and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you
    Don
