I have a yellow plum tree which is about 15 years old and has been an excellent producer of fruit until this year. Our crop this year had damage to the plums as the majority of the fruit was spoiled due to what looked like a ring around the outside skin of the plum and looked like something was eating the plum around the outside skin area. I thought it may have been birds, but the damage was too extent to be birds and I suspect that the plums have a disease of some sort. I have never had to spray this tree as we have not experienced a problem in the past Anyone out there with a similar experience that would help me. We live in Qualicum Beach on Vanvouver Island. Thank you
No the fruit has been destroyed. The Plums looked like they had a ting around the top end and scabbed like something was eating it. The majority of the Plums were found this way.
Splits in the blossom end are normal in some varieties of Plums. There can be occasionally an insect in the split attracted by the easy access to the juice. However without seeing the damage it is not possible to say if this is the case with your plums. Verbal description is not enough. Welcome to the forum.
