Can someone please ID this plant. My friend and I both know it's a terrestrial plant, and that we know what it is, but it escapes both of us and we are going crazy! lol Thanks in advance! http://bluebook.o2.co.uk/photos/photo09/a8/3c/c9b84e95aad3.jfif Thank you, Julia
It is a dracaena but I believe the common name is a ribbon plant. Is that a picture of your plant? They can grow in dirt.
Such is the unfortunate use (or misuse) of common names. It seems many plants are commonly named 'Lucky' this and that for marketing purposes. Yes, Ribbon Plant is another name for this plant.
The correct name for the species is Dracaena braunii. The name Dracaena sanderiana was coined for the variegated for of the species but the species was originally named Dracaena braunii for the green form and that name has priority by a few months. There was a feud over the correct name for the species in the Gardener's Chronicle in 1893 when both names were published but nobody seems to have bothered to go back to the original source to check it out. The species originates from the Cameroon in west Africa and has absolutely nothing do with Feng Shui, "good luck" or any other hokum despite the claims by Thai dealers or their websites.
