I had this plant for 6 month and was beautiful, now the leaves are loosing color and then they fall, I suspected was too much water, or not enough, but I need to know the real problem so I can save it. It came with a plastic who said is a Vinca Wine, but I think is wrong. Thanks in advanced for all your help.. Celina
It looks to me like some form of Peperomia. If that's the case, then overwatering could be your culprit. The majority of Peperomia's like their soil rather on the dry side. I have trouble keeping them alive as I tend to water them to much!
it's definitely a peperomia, not vinca!! i hate it when the tags are wrong!! anyhoo, has the pep ever been repotted? if not, the soil it's in may be the issue. most growers use peat (easier for them and cheaper) and that's not too ideal for the majority of plants. the other problem with it is that, when it dries out, it DRIES out and can become hard as a rock. it's almost impossible to rehydrate, so, whatever water is being given isn't getting to the roots. i'm not saying this is your issue...just bringing it up as a possiblity. first thing is i would check what kind of soil and if it is peat, i'd repot it into regular soil mixed with perlite or bits of styrofoam for drainage or you can use regular soil mixed with cactus soil. you'll have to remove the peat from the roots before putting the plant in the regular soil...use the sprayer at the sink or the hose outside or even get a small pan and fill with water and let the roots soak for about a half hour or so. gently spray the roots or, if you're doing the soaking, gently manipulate the roots with your finger to remove the peat. once removed, use toweling to pat the roots dry of excess water and plant. i wouldn't water the soil for about 4-5 days - give the roots time to recover from being so disturbed. then water throroughly and get back on the usual watering routine. water thoroughly and let the soil dry down a inch or two before watering again. the container it's in should have drainage holes, too.
Thanks so much, I dont know what is peat but I will try to find, I have lots of plants in the kitchen, during winter outside is all dead, and this was just great until this last month. I will try to add less water, maybe the air aconditioner hurts too. I will follow your instructions, thanks again...
