    Hi,
I have a question regarding the Mimosa, or, Albizia julibrissia.

We bought a tree from a local nursury here on the Sunshine coast, but after reading on different forums, have become a little hestitant to plant it where we intended to, about eight feet away from our pavered driveway, and the house foundation. Our concerns are mainly centered around the problems that the roots may cause in lifting up the driveway pavers, or cracking our concrete garage pad. In the southeast U.S. this tree is considered an invasive plant. What about here in the lower mainland, could it be invasive as well? Our main concern is with the roots. Any answers out there about this potential problem?
    Thank-you in advance

In suitable hot, well-drained site does sometimes make a fairly big tree in this climate. However, at 8' away probably neither the paving nor the foundation are at risk.

"Invasive" as in how it behaves back East refers to it seeding out into wild areas and other places where not wanted. We do not see this phenomenon in our region.
