I have purchased a Daphne in a 5 gallon container. The roots are encased in a burlap bag tied up around the trunk. We are new to the Oregon coast and live in close proximity to the ocean. The soil seems to drain fairly well but is spotty with clay areas. How can I best prepare the location where I plan to plant it?

I've heard about the finickiness of this little darling and I don't want her to up and die after keeping her healthy in this container for some time.

    Thanks for any advice.

They like well drained soil ..if you can keep it from getting phytophthora it will be fine. phytophthera likes moist and wet conditions. daphnes like it dry..sandy and full sun. PH 7 to 8
