Can anyone suggest perennial plants that would thrive in shade? This is for an outdoor garden in Central America so they must also withstand lots of humidity. Flowering and nonflowering would be welcomed. Thank you!
Here's a few ideas for you: Heuchera Obsidian works well in shade and high humidity and has beautiful dark leaves; Elephant Ear plant, Australian Tree Fern, Coleus, Caladium and Impatiens will all work well in shady, sub-tropical and tropical areas.
I'll second all of Gardenscaper's reccomendations (with the aviso that Elephant Ears are locally called Papa China or Colocasia), and I'd also point out that Belize has a great wealth of native ferns, both standard and tree-types.
