    Hello everybody,

I have recently bought a plant at my local grocery store but it didn't say what the name was. It was sold as a "tropical foliage". Very nice plant for the price 10$ but I am having problems with it and I would really appreciate if someone could help me identify it. It seems to be drying up, leaves are turning yellow and then black and dry even tough it is not getting direct sunlight and is watered as advised on the little cardboard (keep it wet). So here are the pics. Big thanks for your help!

My guess for ID would be Chamaedorea elegans (parlor palm) or C. cataractum (cat palm).

As for why it's doing what it's doing, I don't know. Cold exposure? Sunburn? Dry air? Acclimation shock? Spider mites?

    Thanks a lot,
It is dry in my flat but i try to keep it well watered and mist it 3-4 times a day... leaves are still turning yellow and brown tough. I just repotted it in a bigger container and I'll check for mites more closely when I get back ! I don't want it to die it's a really nice palm. Don't hesitate if you have any other suggestion!

So turns out it has a very bad spider mites infestation, I'd say half the plant is severely under attack by those little ennemies. I've sprayed it with a 1:3 solution of rubbing alcohol 50% and water and will try to give it frequent showers. I am new to plant pests, my other plants never got any as far as I can tell. My only other palm is a Washingtonia I planted from seeds 2 years ago and it is thriving free of pests so far. What should I expect in terms of recovery? Could it die from it?
