I have had this plant for a year or so. It was a slip and has grown quite a bit. I really don't know what it is and how to care for it... it is showing signs of neglect!
I think I will take slips and start again.

My Aunt called it a pineapple plant. It produces a long purple flower, alomost like a lupin?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

It's definitely not a pineapple (Ananas comosus) - it has the look of something from the mint family. Are the leaves aromatic when you rub them? If so, what do they smell like?

    Yes ,

It's not a great smell, something like grapefruit maybe?

Check out Hierbabuena - Clinopodium douglasii or possibly Mentha citrata (Pineapple mint). With the grapefruit smell, I'd say it's more likely Hierbabuena - it makes a lovely herbal tea, very good for the digestion.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I think it is mint, and by pictures it looks most like egyptian mint.

Do you know how to care for it? Water and light?

Abundant water (about every 5 days, more frequently if the soil feels dry to the depth of your first knuckle) and lots of light will keep it from creeping and hanging, but if you like the trailing look, put it in bright shade.
