    Hi,
I have a 75 ft pine tree in my front yard and it is beautiful. But this year all of the pinecones broke apart and accumulated under and around the tree.
My question is, is this normal for a pine tree and if not what can be done in order for the tree to drop undamaged pine cones. It would be easier to clean up and less damaging to the lawn.
I just moved in about a year ago, so I am not sure if this is a continued trend or not.
Also, what is the best way for me to identify thistype of tree.
Any advice is appreciated well in advance.
    DS

Pine cones don't generally break up like this; fir cones do, so it is likely your tree is a fir.

    Can you post a photo?

Or maybe a true cedar (Cedrus), if not too cold a climate there.
