I have encountered this mushroom now and then. It usually is in good condition as you picture depicts. Edibility: Edible. Used after preliminary boiling, fried, salted, marinaded. I have never had the inclination to eat it, since I am put off by the appearance. Very nice picture. Durgan.
According to 2 books I have, it is not edible. One says 'not recommded' and the other 'poisonous'. Maybe I have not identified it correctly.
I agree with your identification for what it's worth. One article I read was some people get sick eating it so is not recommended. I always figured it was too ugly to even contemplate eating it. I only eat a few that I am 100% sure of, Morals, Oyster mushrooms, puffballs, chantrelles, Chicken of the wood, when I find one. I haven't eaten any boletes, because I am never certain of the identification, plus the fact that they are never in quantity in my locations. Durgan.
>>. I always figured it was too ugly ... Beauty is in the eye of the holder, I suppose. I think it rather attractive :)
I know absoloutely nothing about mushrooms, but I love the textures on this one. I think it is easy on the eyes. Nice picture too :)
