We had 8 perennial hibiscus that we have had for over 10 years now. We look forward to their gorgeous flowers every summer. We are moving a couple of miles away and want to take them with us. Is that a possibility to uproot them and if so, how and what time of the year is the best time to do that. I would purchase new but I haven't seen a nursery carry them since we bought them 10 years ago. Thanks

the best time is in the fall, after the go dormant. but, if you do it very very soon, it would probably be alright, if they haven't already started to come up. I would just use a good sharp shovel and put them in there new home as soon as possible. Make sure they are watered in well after transplanting. I have had great luck transplanting perennials in very early spring. Doesn't really seem to bother them much as long as it is done before any substantial amount of growth has taken place or it gets too hot. good luck.

Hibisicus moscheutos and H. coccineus are sold here, even at supermarkets.
