I have been given a small pencil cactus as a gift. I am told it should be repotted in a sligtly larger (6 inch) pot. The root ball is well formed and it is "dripping wet". Should I wait for the soil to be dryer or go ahead and repot it now? Do I need to add anything to the soil? Will it do better if I place it in a direct sunlight (north facing window) Any suggestions to ensure it "takes" in the new pot.

I would let this dry out for sure!!
    It shouldn't be "dripping wet"!!
Mine get half day full sun, so direct sunlight should be fine...

These are really nice looking and easy plants to have. Mine grows in a south facing window.
Yes, let the soil completly dry out before repotting (if it truly needs it) I keep mine snug. Also let it dry before doing any watering. You didn't say what pot size it's in now, but it's best to only go up an inch larger. Just move it all over to the new pot and fill in the sides. You can add broken up orchid bark chips and something like perlite for a more lighter, better draining mix.
