http://www.durgan.org/ShortURL/?JADST 23 June 2008 Dr. Evans Peas (Pisum sativum) A variety called Dr. Evans was a sample received, and they were planted on 4 May 2008. Every seed germinated, and the plants are vigorous and healthy. The flowers are mauve, not white like most of the other peas grown. Full germination is difficult with peas in my experience, so I will collect seeds from this cultivar to determine if it repeats next year. It will be a few more days before the peas are mature enough for the table.
Durgan, my father-in-law grows peas each year as well. His have exploded this year and are producing very well. I am doing pole beans this trial year, and they want to grow. They have yet to take off, but look to be ready when looking down into the plant, now 5" in height. I hope you freeze the extra peas, since they freeze well without issue.
