    Websters defines a tree as;
    any tall, perrenial, woody plant usually with a single elongated stem (trunk) and having a head of branches and foliage, or foliage only ~ anything resembling this, or thought of as resembling this, esp. as having branches spreading from a single stem.

    So ... yes, a palm tree is really a tree.
