Palm fur

    Is the brown "fur" around the trunk of trachies normal? I don't see that around other palm trees in warmer climates except near the top.

    Yes, it is normal.

    Whether it has anything to do with insulating the stem in winter, I don't know.

    Some people go to great lengths to shave off all the fur.

    I wonder if these people do the same with their pet dogs and cats?? ;-)
