I would like to know what type of soil my new little Pachira would like to live in, it is only little about 6" high, in a rather ugly plastic pot which will soon be replaced by a nicer pot. Would an African violet pot be suitable? I understand they like dry conditons at their feet, not too much water, pot sitting on a bed of glass beads with a little water? It is braided. Any help would be appreciated.

if you mean the self-watering african violet pot, then no, that wouldn't be good.

pachira should dry out a bit before watering again. a general mix that drains well and still holds some moisture is what you need.

you should only repot if you see roots coming out of the bottom - until then you can place the plastic pot into a bigger and nicer-looking ceramic pot to cover it up!
