Hello all, I've recently bought a house that has a very LARGE cotoneaster, it's getting a little out of hand, about 10' tall, 20' wide, and 8' thick.

How do I trim it down to about 5' tall without hurting it? Last year I noticed the city cut some of it's down, right to the stump, and it's regrowing, is this the only way to do it? I'd would rather not, as I enjoy the look, and privacy it gives, I just want it shorter (about 5' to be exact).

Any response would be appreciated. Thanks!

Will come back full of crossing branches if pruned in that manner. Cut it all the way down and start it over from the bottom or leave it.
