Posting from Florida. My grandmother had what I thought was a dying corn plant and I threw it in a hole dug by the dog in the yard. I even ran over it a few times with the lawnmower. Four years later it is about 12 feet tall and it is blooming for the second time. The flowers are the best smelling thing ever. Once the flowers are done the plant produces a small nut/seed at the end of the flower area. I planted a few but no new growth. I think this plant spreads by sending out new shoots from the center stalk? Does anyone know what the nut/seed would be? Picture of the whole plant.
From: Dracaena fragrans Massangeana at B & T World Seeds There seems to be a lack of information on whether they will grow true from seed.
I left some on the surface and buried others at 3" and 6". Nothing. I did leave them on the plant until they dried out, turned brown, and would have naturally fallen. It's blooming again but it is supposed to get pretty cold this weekend and it may not allow for deed growth. As of right now the flowers are almost mature (bees are swarming) but the nightly eruption of inner flowers has not occurred. It's a race for time I feel. If the temp drops too low I may not get the full scent/flower effect.
