Would appreciate any and all solutions to the problems with our Corn Plant. Observations: - Bottom leaves are turning yellow rather quickly - The leaves have started to droop really bad - The tips are also turning brown and drying out - A few roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot We water the plant approx. every 2 weeks (water straight out from the tap). We moved to a new condo approx. 9 months back. The condo is south facing and gets a lot of light but we do not have the plant next to a window. The condo does get a bit dry in winter but not very different from the last condo we lived in. Thank you in advance for all your help. Gavin
In general it looks ok to me, but I think it would enjoy a bigger pot and some more water, possibly once a week?? Ed
if roots are coming out of the container, it's needs to be repotted into something larger! and it should have drainage holes. being rootbound will cause it to not be able to absorb the water properly - so you'll get the discolored leaves. using water straight from the tap will also cause discolored leaves. water should be at room temp - letting it sit over night also allows excess chlorine to dissipate (too much chlorine can also cause the browning tips). always water throroughly - all the soil should be evenly moistened and you should just see a bit of excess water coming out the bottom drain holes. allow the soil to dry down about 2 inches before watering again.
All symptoms sound like early too-dry ones. You are an alert plant owner---you have spotted the situation in good time. I agree with joclyn: repot.
