Osmanthus fragrans (kwai-fah)

    Here's a tree with the most fragrant flowers I know of. Tiny as they are, one little flower can fill an entire room.Grown at lower elevations it's usually a vertical shrub often found near the entrances to the local buddhist temples. If however, you should plant this one at a higher elevation, watch out. It grows very fast and gets 30 to 40 feet tall with a good size canopy. You'd be lucky to have one in your neighborhood.

    Grown on the mainland as well. Hybrid with Osmanthus heterophyllus, O. x fortunei is hardier, with similar attributes.
