The photo is that of one of my Runner Bean packages. Being that kind of guy, I usually don't read the instructions, but in a fit of dutifulness I did in this case. I analysed, absorbed, compared & contrasted as I was taught long ago, & discovered that I should plant the seeds 1 inch apart & thin to 10 inches apart. Hello??? I counted the beans & got out my scientific calculator with all the required higher mathematical functions. The bean row would have started out 3 feet long & contained 3.5 bean plants after thinning. At this point I was doing my grumpy old man routine (the evils of marketing, the lack of trust in modern business relationships, the decline & fall of civlization as I know it) & my wife was laughing. I planted my beans as usual 4-5 inches apart. If any of the b*g**rs don't come up the adjacent ones are more than vigorous enough to fill the spaces. Am I going to read my veggie seed packages in future? You guess. The point of this rant is to remind myself & anyone else when planting seeds, to use some common sense & an independent third source for planting & cultural information - even if it the grumpy old guy next door! gb
I'm surprised there's no disclaimer that persons named Jack may only climb the plants at their own risk.
Ahahaha! Darn corporations only in it for the money, there are still few who actually know what they're marketing.
