The following was sent in via email: I have an indoor palm given to me 4 years ago. It grew wonderfully until this year and it is showing signs of distress. I was told that it is about 30 years old. I would like to send you a photo so you can identify the plant and possibly suggestions regarding the problem. The tree grows only 4 fronds at a time. The new four grow out of the old 4 as the old four droop and die. The trunk is chunky wide and shows all the rows of age. Problem signs: this year the 4 old fronds drooped but no new fronds came in at their regular schedule which should have been last November. The tips of the fronds have all turned brown. Too much, too little water? too much too little Miracle Grow? Irregular sprouting of new fronds to be expected? The plant is about 14' tall when the fronds are healthy and standing tall. Beautiful. Thoughts?
Looks like some kind of cycad, rather than a true palm. Probably a combination of being a plant that doesn't produce a huge head of many leaves anyway, coupled with it wishing it was in a sunny, humid greenhouse.
