You'd have to prune the flowering branches as they begin to set flower. Not an easy task I'd imagine, especailly on an older large tree.
You spray it with Florel while the flowers are open. The flowers abort and no fruit is formed. Of course, it's easier said than done. Here's a link to the product: http://www.montereylawngarden.com/info/florel/
I thought I heard if a product like this once but wasn't sure if it was available. $72 a gallon? wow!.
very unlikely to be registered for use in Canada. another product is paclobutrazol, a growth regulator, allowed inthe US, not welcome here in Canada so far as I have heard.
Good for Canada! I reckon it is unethical to stop plants producing fruit, thereby depriving wildlife of the food resources they need to survive the winter.
Abad I guess you would do it more or less in the same way as stopping any female animals from child bearing. But the important question remains "Why would you want to do it?"
