At least 15 years old robust grape vine has always produced beautiful arbor and bountiful grape yields, with very little maintenance. Started growing well this year, but abruptly branches have started falling off, emerging baby clusters of grapes are falling off, and leaves are curling. I can't find any information on line that sounds like our issue. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, please? Thanks!
I suppose, there is mechanical damage. Somebody (squirrels?) or something (wind?) breaks young branches (these are pretty fragile in certain age).
There could be several reasons, spraying Sensitivity, cold snap, root nematodes, phylloxera, fertilizing, really difficult to say. Even drift spray from nearby farms. What type of grapes are the vines? Do you live near farms? How has the weather been after bloom? Are the vines own-rooted or grafted? Have you sprayed any insecticides, or other sprays for mildew/rot? Excessive or insufficient watering? Is it just one vine or are all vines experiencing these same symptoms? I generally start with, What has changed in the environment since last year? Try to answer these questions and your solution may be found more easily. Good luck!
