[GMAP][/GMAP]Dozens of Akebono Cherry Trees in 20~50% bloom on both side of Tempe Knoll. This location isn't shown on Map.
Many cherry trees in 20~50% bloom, but i am not so sure that is Akebono or Somei-yoshino. They locate in Tempe Cresent.
'Akebono'. Nice photos - I'll check to see if they're favourites - they look like places people would like to visit. .
New location - corner of E. 8th (600 block) at Grand Blvd East Mature 'Akebono' I had my eye on this location over the winter as the trunk of this tree does not look grafted from a distance so I was hoping it was a 'Somei-yoshino'. But up close the trunk does look somewhat grafted and the petal has an extra incomplete one - so I guess it is an 'Akebono'. I haven't seen many "Somei-yoshino' cherries in North Vancouver - I live in hope.... Deborah
New location - 235 East 8th Street near St. Georges Avenue 2 'Akebono' with very large upright trunks, branches start at about 6-7 feet high. Would anyone know what cultivar would be used on the trunk portion of these trees to produce such an upright and sturdy trunk?
several "Accolade" in Lynn Valley,North Vancouver Several Accolade cherry trees are almost in full bloom in Lynn Valley Road at Mountain Highway( next to Scotiabank. This location is not shown on the map .
Re: several "Accolade" in Lynn Valley,North Vancouver How cold IS it over there? I'd have said it couldn't be 'Accolade' still coming into bloom, but it does look like it. Are 'Akebono' in bloom there?
Re: several "Accolade" in Lynn Valley,North Vancouver I took some photos at Lynn Valley mall today at 10:30 ( Today is rainy day and temperature is at 7 Celsius). There are 8 of Accolade Cherry trees in full bloom.
Re: several "Accolade" in Lynn Valley,North Vancouver Re" Post # 84 - I went and looked at these this evening on the way home as I have never seen any 'Accolade', I didn't have my camera but like Susan I don't think these are 'Akebono' as the branches are spindly, the blossoms are more sparse with a slight drooping quality to them, the trunks are a lighter gray than I have seen around. So overall a mystery to me until I consult the website and guidebook. Deborah
Around 20 Akebono cherry trees are in full bloom in both side of Tempe Knoll Dr. This location is not shown on festival map.
New Location: near 1392 East 29th street There is a beautiful cherry tree, but I don't know what the cultivar is.
Re: several "Accolade" in Lynn Valley,North Vancouver My question was confusing. It was 'Takasago' I was wondering about, as they're double blossoms in bloom everywhere now. So I asked about 'Akebono' timing, wondering if everything else is so late up there. But now I see that 'Akebono' are blooming up there almost the same time as everywhere else, but 'Accolade' are finished everywhere else. From the nice clear photos, I can see that the sepals are very different from 'Takasago', and there is none of the leaf fuzziness and hairy pedicels of that cultivar.
'Pandora', I think. Such upright branches, petals not overlapping. This cultivar would normally bloom just after 'Accolade', so that's giving more credence to the 'Accolade' ID of the others. I'm just surprised, since in the rest of the lower mainland, a cultivar has been opening pretty close to the same time everywhere, off by only a few days.
