What advice, suggestions do you have for trimming a crab apple tree? I have never done this so any thoughts would be appreciated. I am in Northern Ontario, and am curious as to when trimming should be done (fall/winter???) and also any special tips for crab apple trees. I have heard you need to trim in specific locations on branches. Thank you in advance for your help. Sideshow
If you don't know what you are doing don't do anything. What specific issues are you trying to address? The tree won't "need" to be pruned.
a list of reasons to prune may include: DDD (dead, diseased and damaged) growth. structure (crossing/ rubbing limbs) increase interior air flow along the lines of what Ron B says, does the tree 'need' pruning or do you want to prune it for some particular reason?
The tree "owner" is worried because one side of the tree is growing too close to the house, and she would like it trimmed back and made a little more symetrical. As for not knowing what I'm doing, that's why I'm asking for help.
