Hello. I'm new around here, and I wanted to introduce myself briefly. My name is Monica, and I am from Mallorca, Spain. I've been growing plants since 2006, but maples since seven years. The Mediterranean climate is a challenge for maples. Annual temperatures in my area range from 38 degrees Celsius in summer to -1.5 degrees Celsius in the coldest month of the year. In addition, the soil is clayey, so there is no choice but to grow them in pots, with mineral substrates so that the roots can receive the oxygen they need. Today my collection of maples is made up of about 20-25 Japanese maples, and about 3-4 maples of other species. To finish, I send some photos. Regards
Hi @monicasanchez, 'welcome', you are not alone from Spain regarding maples. If you look on the Cheering ourselves up thread you will see others. It would be great to see photos of your maple collection on there. If you can add the names that would be great.
Hello and welcome from Granada, the truth is that it is a great challenge to grow maples at our temperatures. Nice maples.
Hi Mónica, and welcome to the forum! Fantastic you've found us, and I look forward to exchanging about maples. You do indeed grow your plants in a challenging climate, but you are not alone as you see. To welcome you, here are some flowers of Acer pectinatum ssp laxiflorum. -Emery
Welcome to the forum, Monica. As I'm typing this, the radio is on and I've just heard that we're probably going to have a very dry, hot summer (after a record 12 months above average temperatures). So we can exchange tips on how to keep healthy maples in hot climates...
Thank you very much for the welcome. It is a pleasure to share photos and tips on maples with people from other countries :)
